Danger: Media stupidity kills
Netizens are almost as always online—day or night, midnight or whatsoever time internet is available. We have our liberty when it comes to social media. We post, tweet or capture all that we think are relevant to our well-being.It's as if we can't live for a night not being online.Well, the problem now was the literacy that we have when it comes to media.Media literacy,I must say,was critical in our country as it worth a cavil. We can't be so stupid believing all the lies on the wide world web,we'll be doomed to humbug beliefs.
Media Literacy in the Philippines really needs some formal attention as we tend to act ignorant in a way that in a single hoax post,we're promptly giving our advertence without even asking ourselves where was the source of such certain post was. This is very foreboding as we seemed too foolish in responding to trolls' bait without any the benefit of the doubt in mind.
Social media has no reservation, and it is the fact there is.If there were million of people who are focusing and are discussing in the ignorance posted there, each of them have their own version of truth. There's no other truth than the thing a person believe. Let's open our minds that browsers nor search engines can't filter whether a data is an echt or just a hornswoggle.
One sighted reason from a point of view of some anononymous individual is that most of the internet user in the Philippines are using free data that is only limited to Facebook and other sites. That is why they can only read misleading headlines from a blogsite that can't be accessed by free data that was often believed by others to be true, they even defend themselves without reading any part of the article itself.
They quickly raise their baseless opinions whilst calling petty names if it is against their notion.
By using their baseless conspiracy theories, they alertly react onto it as they readily comment a copy and paste it out of the topic argument and that comes out as dopey as unicorn with rainbow hairs. It is pure stupidity to base your judgment and claim it as a fact without giving any credible basis from a credible source.
ReelTime,a documentary series film once featured these trolls with an episode title of "Troll Center" where they showed how trolls work and how they get paid. Also featured are the ranters who are posting jeremiads online ranting the world with their own mindset that are also a cause of cyberbullying.
Despite all of these, it is good to know that as time goes by,more and more people are now being vigilant after committing some lethal act of gormlessness.Gone are the days that we are binded by what someone told us to believe because in the first place,we have minds and that mind was ordered to think for our own judgment, that's why we have the word "opinion".Let's just make good use of it.Opinions are more likely needed if someone asks you for it but if not, better zipped that mouth.
Moreover,Media Literacy in our country calls for a concern from the academe.Things online must also be studied in school and government must have some special forums regarding responsible netizenship so that social media may not be a den of hypocrisy and travesty runned by boneheads and dim-witted people.
